Residents urged to continue reducing water consumption in the Bloekombos, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein and Eikendal area

Residents in the Bloekombos, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein Industrial and Eikendal communities are urgently requested to continue reducing their water consumption to ease strain on the network and minimise further disruption. The supply line to De Novo reservoir was repaired yesterday, but another burst occurred on a section of the pipeline in close proximity to where the initial repairs were done. This is causing supply disruption in the Belmont Park, De Novo and high-lying areas in Klein Begin, which are currently being serviced with water tankers.

The pipeline supplying De Novo Reservoir was shut down when a burst occurred in another section after the pumps started to fill the De Novo reservoir as part of the normal operation. The maintenance crews have been working round the clock to attend to the repairs to restore the water supply soonest.
 
‘The City is making every effort to maintain supply to the affected residents while the repairs are under way and we greatly appreciate their cooperation and patience in this regard. Lower demand assists us in recovering the levels of the reservoirs, which otherwise would be placed under severe strain. We were able to sustain the supply to these areas at night, but unfortunately the consumption during the day is starting to exceed the supply and will adversely affect these areas.
 
‘Tankers have continued roaming through De Novo, Belmont Park and Klein Begin to provide water for domestic consumption where required.
 
‘The City sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation during this time,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
